NEW BRAND: Kangol Headwear

Kangol dates back as early as 1918 when Jewish Polish veteran Jacques Spreiregen returned from WWI and began to import Basque berets from France. Marketing them as a must-have post-war fashion item, Jacques becomes increasingly involved in the production and distribution of berets over the next 20 years.

In 1938, Jacques created the name KANGOL to distinguish himself from the competition. The most widely believed theory is that he combined the K from knitting, the ANG from angora, and the OL from wool. They had been experimenting with logos and sent out a whole batch for review. These logos ranged from crocodiles to horses and turtles. But the biggest influence was Americans going into stores asking for the “kangaroo” hats. So instead of trying to fight it, Kangol adopted the Kangaroo into the logo. Since then, Kangol had been a large distributor for workers, golfers, and especially soldiers post-WWI.

Fast forward to the Swinging Sixties, Kangol headwear began making its mark in the music industry, providing headwear to the most influential music group of its time, The Beatles. From the Beatles to the early days of hip hop, to today’s diverse and varied musical genres, Kangol continues to be a part of the scene.

We are so excited to share that we will now be carrying Kangol online and in-store now at Solestop. Click here to check out the entire collection now. Let us know via DM or in the comments what other style you would like us to carry!
