The Inside Scoop of the Upcoming Needles x ASICS EX89
NEEDLES is designed by Keizo Shimizu, founder of Nepenthes. In 2007, the brand opened its first flagship shop in Fukuoka. With its attention to detail backed by extensive knowledge of menswear, and the sense of playfulness and escapism that comes with it, the brand has created a one-of-a-kind worldview that captivates and fascinates.
Needles means "needle". However, the brand name also means "Need-less," or "no more than necessary". NEEDLES is a brand that has gained a huge following among fashionistas for its unique style that combines work style, American casual, and native style. NEEDLES is highly appreciated by fashionistas and celebrities overseas.
The design is inspired by the track pants, an indispensable signature of NEEDLES.It is said that NEEDLES track pants are characterized by the fact that they are manufactured on a single old knitting machine in a Japanese factory with a unique atmosphere, instead of using high-speed knitting machines. Like the track pants that use a rough mesh tape, which is also a feature of these track pants, this EX89 uses a different stitchwork from the IN LINE. Inspired by the side lines of track pants, four stitch lines are used on the TS portion and TOE guard. In order to express the stitching lines beautifully, the size of the TS lines and reinforcement parts have been changed. On the tongue of the left foot, the NEEDLES brand mark is embroidered instead of the ASICS SPORTSTYLE logo, creating an asymmetrical design. The heel is finished with an embroidered butterfly mark, the face of the NEEDLES brand. The SPECIAL SHOE BOX is also an item full of attention to detail, faithfully incorporating the design of the track pants.
