The GEL-LYTETM III trainer remains one of the most cherished and recognizable silhouettes in footwear history. Launched in 1990, the shoe was an innovative performance running product for its time, and has become famous in the lifestyle world for its iconic triple-density sole and split tongue design.

The GEL-LYTETM XXX shoe takes upper inspiration from the classic GEL-LYTETM III shoe but adds modern materialization, such as the performance-forward midsole made from ASICS’ most premium FlyteFoamTM Lyte technology, creating a hybrid that is inspired by the past but built on the future.

Inspired by the GEL-LYTETM III model, The GEL-LYTETM XXX sneaker has kept the iconic split tongue but has a more streamlined wrap-up construction, which Kitami explains was adopted for increased fitting. Another noticeable characteristic is the pronounced heel, this is a design element that gives a modernized look to the sneaker and is connected to a midsole using FLYTEFOAMTM technology - which provides soft cushioning and lightweight to the wearer. The GEL-LYTETM XXX sneaker utilizes both mesh and synthetic leather on the upper with contrast ASICS Stripes emblazoned across either side and a connected ‘XXX’ on the midsole, illustrating the connection between past and present.
